1. Independence and liberal revolutions in Spanish and Portuguese America.
2. The United States: from Independence to the World War I. Internal conflicts, national consolidation and its external implications.
3. Liberalism in power. Latin America, formation of the national states and integration in world market.
4. The Relationships US-Latin America until World War II.
5. Intellectuals and cultural trends during the 19th and 20th century. Migration to the Americas, survivals and social changes.
6. The crisis of the 1930s and the populisms. Other ways out to the crisis.
7. The struggle for civil rights in the United States.
8. The Cuban Revolution and its global impact. Salvador Allende and the Chilean road to socialism.
9. Southern Cone military dictatorships in the 1970s. The “Lost Decade” (1980) and the transitions to democracy.
10. Permanence and emergence of new movements and leftist guerrillas in Latin America. Neoliberalism in the 1990s and challenges of the new century.
